catching up
my midwest tour this past week was a lot of fun! thanks again to everyone who helped make it happen.
i’m back home now catching up with my family, sleep, home life, and my other non-music employment that helps pay the bills.
i’ll be on the road for an east coast tour with john davey in mid-may. more details on that soon.
chicago mixtape
my cover of the song “jesus gonna make up my dyin’ bed” is featured on this week’s chicago mixtape in advance of my show at the empty bottle next week! go to chicagomixtape.com to to sign up if you haven’t already.
tour!

we’re making strides on this record out! i’m doing vocals and guitar today. strings, flute, backing vocals, and bass in illinois this weekend!

a lot of the music for lp2 is scored out in sibelius, so i’m playing orchestra librarian again in these days leading up to recording. especially pumped about the string quartet arrangements that hamilton berry and i prepared!
i go back to durham, nc in less than a week to continue work on my next lp! much tracking of percussion, vocals, guitar, keys, and even pedal steel is on the docket at scott solter’s studio. then we’re back up to tolono, il for a whirlwind 3 days of vocal, string quartet, and bass overdubs at earth analog studio. then back down to durham for mixing. and then mastering at the delightful chicago mastering service. wish us luck in this jam packed 19 days!
i’ll be looking forward to announcing dates for tours in april and may very soon!
recording!
i started recording for a new lp with scott solter on january 2. we have a long way to go, but i’m anticipating that the record may be out for a digital release in april, with a physical release to follow hopefully not too long after.
it also looks as though i’ll be touring the midwest, east, and south in april/may.
and that’s about all i know for now.
man, last week was a whirlwind of music events. let’s recap:
sunday – peoria symphony rehearsal
monday – peoria symphony rehearsal
tuesday – played a show at red barn with dirty gentlemen, small houses, and peter adriel
wednesday – worked merch for john vanderslice at schuba’s day 1
thursday – worked merch for john vanderslice at schuba’s day 2
friday – peoria symphony student concerts and rehearsal
saturday – peoria symphony classics 2 dress rehearsal and concert
sunday – watched crooked fingers/john vanderslice at off broadway in STL
and now i need to write, because i go into the studio in january! no more shows until 2013!
Back Home
i got back to peoria from tour early this morning. it was a rough trip, but here’s the interesting thing; all the details that contribute to making a tour difficult (playing to nobody and sleeping in the car stand out in my mind) only make me feel more close to and invested in my music.
it was also great to share the tour experience with one of my best friends, gabe liebowitz of dastardly.
so, while i may be fatigued and burnt out, i just feel ready to move forward.
i’ll be touring again in the spring and summer, but for now i’m holing up and working on a new full-length record, which will see release in 2013.
take care until next time,
jared
